Greetings Blog Family,

A lot has been happening in my life and business the past few weeks. So much so that I have not been hanging around here like I planned. But there has been two new readers to the Blog Family that really reminded me why I wanted to get into blogging, media, and the educational training field in the first place.

That new additions to the Blog Family are Matty Byloos and Portland Roofer. They reminded me that everything we do on this Internet has the potential to help someone and create value in their lives. I want to thank them for this simple reminder and let them know that they are appreciated for reading and following along with me. (Big ups to the entire Blog Family cause you guys and girls are special to me as well. These two just gave me the kick in the pants that I needed to reach out and remember.)

Business, Blogging, & Entrepreneurship is all about Value

It doesn’t matter what you do as an entrepreneur. The bottom line of your business is value. If you are not producing or contributing value to someones life, business, or endeavor, then you are not going to be in business for very long. I got to this train of thought because over the last few days I had been thinking of ways I could increase my revenue streams and make more money. Right, who doesn’t want to make more money?

Everyone wants to increase their capital intake, but focusing on money will only lead to more problems. You know it is very easy to concentrate on the lack. We have a tendency to think about and/or become obsessed with what is missing in our lives. In this case, the lack of money. This thinking about the money that we don’t have only leads to more thinking about the money we don’t have. This vicious cycle can continue on and on until you have permanently wrecked your business.

It can lead to the destruction of your business because your focus on the bottom line can lead to an unfocusing on the customer and the final product that you are producing. This product could be content, consulting ideas, or donuts. It is very difficult to produce the best quality product you have if you are not intently focused on every step. This applies to all entrepreneurs from bloggers to general contractors, from independent medical physicians to lawn care experts. You have to be 100% there and focused on delivering for your clients or it is going to show.

Business, Blogging, & Entrepreneurship is all about Value

Well today, it dawned on my that my focus in the wrong place. I don’t need to be thinking about making more money, I need to be thinking about creating more value for clients, readers, and customers. If I do that, then the money will follow. And you should be thinking about the same thing, value for your clients, customers, and readers.

I know these are stressful times, but do yourself a favor…I know I am. Pull your head out of your own ass. Take a moment to identify the needs of your readership, clients, customers. And focus on giving them what they need. I promise that if you do that, then it will lead to them telling others and sooner or later people will be only happy to track you down and share their hard earned money with you.

Today is a new day!

Today is the first of the rest of our lives. And fortunately, we have an opportunity to start the rest of our lives the right way by focusing on our customers, clients, and readers. Focusing so much on them, that our business is actually all about them. I know, go figure, who would start a business that is all about the customers? A successful business owner is who would do such a thing.

And today is our opportunity to be that person. No matter who you were yesterday or in the past, today is the day that you drop that behavior and start caring about your customers, readers, and clients. I know you understand that without them, you and your business have nothing. So, if you understand that point, take off the selfish hat with me and let’s focus on the people that allow us to bring home the bacon…the customer.

The master motivator is losing his focus, eh? Well, we all do… Yaro once said

If you have a passion for a topic that you can translate into benefit for other people, then you should be blogging.

And yes, it all boils down to what value we bring to the table and how we achieve that consistently.

If they say, we write our own paycheck, NO, the customers do. It has been and it will always be.

    To our success

Thanks for the special shout! I think it’s so great when strangers help each other out — it’s nice that there is an opportunity for people to share and inspire others. Would be nicer even still if that happened to people out on the street — but maybe the Internet provides us a great tool to practice.

Glad to see a new post and here’s to many more!

Great post, we’re creating value with every post and every comment we leave. Everything on the Internet will stay on the Internet for generations, so we might as well instill value in all that we create.

Marketing is tough sometimes to stay motivated with, because it takes consistent daily action to keep it moving. So when we become un-motivated we waste days or weeks in inaction.

@ Yan – Unfortunately, Yan, if anyone begins to focus on the money, you will lose sight of what is really important. In this case, helping people and delivering value to them through my blog. I got off track, but I am back. I don’t write my own check, my customers do. And I appreciate all that they give me, for I give them all that I have.

@ Matty – Thanks for reminding me why I started this blog in the first place. Sometimes we all need a kick in the butt and people benefiting from what you are doing is just the kick we need. I received that from you and it is appreciated.

You are right about how people on the Internet seem to go out of their way to help others than people in real life, but it is a great place to start practicing….and I think it is going to carry over into real life. Just continue to keep paying it forward. I know I am.

@ Wynter – You raise a very interesting truth that what we write will be here for generations to come. Kind of makes you think about the material or footprints that we are leaving. I know that as I move forward that thought will be on my mind and I will continue to attempt to produce the best that I have to offer in hopes that my grandchildren will read one day and appreciate my efforts. Thanks for the thought.

As for marketing, you just have to keep fighting, pushing, building, and growing each and everyday. The truth being told, you never know which effort it is going to be that is going to take you to that next level. Therefore, we must continue to push them all.

That's true – if you do things for the sake of doing them – for passion, for need of creating something valuable the money will come. Or even if it won't at least you'll have the feeling of achieving something great – you created a glorious thing and even if people didn't appreciate it you still know it's value.

This is true because value is in the eye of the beholder. If you creating something wonderful that isn't appreciated at the moment, doesn't mean it is garbage. Take Twitter as an example, when it first dropped most people, including myself, didn't see any value in it. That didn't mean that there wasn't any value. The owners stuck with it and now it is one of the fastest growingphenomenonson the Internet and we cannot seem to live with out. (Got to run. Must send out my next Tweet!)

That's true. If people appreciate you they're more likely to buy something from you later on. Basing your whole business model around tricking people into buying useless crap is kinda short-sighted.

We have to think about the future the opportunity cost of swindling someone now for quick cash.
