Quote of the Week: Remember the Airplane

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”

- Henry Ford

Greetings Blog Family,

Sometimes life can be very cruel to us and our dreams. It is easy to see the winds of resistance blowing against you and feeling as though life has it out for you. As if, you are not suppose to succeed because of all the resistance, pressure, and fight you are encountering as you pursue your goals and dreams.

I can totally relate. Lately, it seems that everything I try to do works for a moment, then falls apart in front of me. Well, maybe fall apart is a bit strong, but lets just say things don’t workout as I plan. This can be frustrating to anyone, especially when it seems to be a nasty pattern.

As you may know, I am looking forward to transitioning from my offline business as a real estate appraiser into a full time Interneter marketer and entrepreneur. This is in no way going to be an easy task and I am feeling the winds pushing against me everyday.

Thanks to Neal of Nota Bene Consulting, he talks about how to blog, the quote this week is from Henry Ford and I don’t think there could have been a better time for this post. This is just the reminder that I needed!

All great achievements need something to push off of to get into the air. For a second there, I was going to let my circumstances get me down and paint the picture of who I am. I am not my circumstances and neither are you. We have to see the much bigger picture that we create our own realities. These winds of resistance that are blowing agains us are nothing more than the wind that will be beneath our wings….just as soon as we realize we are still in control and get our nose in the air and begin to take flight.

What you and I need to do is continue to build momentum and speed inspite of the wind. If you think about it, the airplaine does the same thing. After a slow taxi to the run way, the pilot stops the plane, checkes the guages, then begins to build up speed in the direction of their destination. After enough speed is built, they pull back on the steering wheel to life the nose into the air and……TAKE FLIGHT!

We are no different. Everything that we have done up to this day is that taxi to the run way. Take a moment to check your guages, your plan, the reasons why you want to succeed. Now look down the runway of the calendar and over the next few days build up your momentum by completing task after task. Continue to complete these task, accomplishments, and gain the confidence it takes to pull back on the steering wheel, lift the nose of your dreams into the air and….TAKE FLIGHT!

We are here to achieve our goals and dreams because this is how we express everything that is inside of us. Don’t get down when the winds of life blow against you, remember this is your opportunity to build up momentum and take off!

Nice thoughts! The quote is true in some aspects. But the reason the airplane goes against the wind is because it is going so fast. So basically if your blog is going fast and being built up fast then you’ll always be going against the wind. Just a thought.

@ Franklin – This is very true. The lesson to learn from this is that you are always going to have some resistance, no matter if that was self generated or not, so we must remember to get the nose of our dreams into the air and take flight!

Thanks for the comment and insight.

    Freddie,

True motivation as always. I may have to send you a quote or two from my wife. She has some really great ones.

As for taking of against the wind…

I agree the path with the least resistance maybe be the easiest but it doesn’t mean it is the best.

Great quote, but I think my favorite part was actually a quote from you, “I am not my circumstances and neither are you.”

This to me is powerful, because this kind of thinking actually adds resistance when we are striving for our goals. We get so caught up in what we can do and what we can’t do. So we end up walking the safe road.

But doing something new and taking a risk will actually cause us to achieve so much more. For lack of a better analogy, remember when we first learnt to walk? (haha I don’t either..) But first attempt we’re bound to hit the ground, it wasn’t for weeks, or months until that invaluable skill was achieved.

In conclusion, we’re gunna fall down before we get to where we want to be, but once we do, we can arrive happily knowing we truly succeeded and knowing that we can genuinely help others from our experience.

    BO!

That’s what I’m talking ’bout, Freddie. You know I like my Henry Ford quotes and that one is a classic. I have been coming up against much resistance of late, both in real life and online, you can always count on some quality quotes of the week to bring things back into perspective for you though.

In terms of getting stuff done, this is always going to be a tough time of the year for all that. Just keep focus, keep working through and get ready to make a big splash in ’09

    Cheers

Adam – Shoot those quotes over to me. I have a library of them, but can always use more as this is becoming a fun post series for me. I am really enjoying it and people seem to be as well.

Always watch yourself to make sure you are going to right way if things are going along too easily, something may be wrong. Success and achievement typically doesn’t follow that path.

@ Wynter – We are not our circumstances. We are so much more. I like your analogy of falling down as a baby while learning to walk because it is so true. People make such a big deal out of temporary failures and it forces them to play life safe. Imagine if that baby feel one too many times and gave up learning to walk. That would be a tragic because an invaluable skill of walking would be destroyed because of some minor set backs.

This is what many of us do in our lives and dreams as entrepreneurs or what it may be. We cannot let these minor situations of dissappointment hold us back. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and fly!

@ Nota – Yeah man, get ready to make a splash in ’09! That is what I am talking about. We are just running down the runway of life getting ready to take off into the new year. You have to believe, live it, then achieve it.

I love the that quote and it's so true. You have to just flourish and prosper in the face of it all! And it's true that all things require you pushing to get them done but when you know you're good when it doesn't take so much effort anymore.
