IM Experiment #1: Creating an eBook with Help
The point of IM Experiments is to test the validity of various internet market and blogging techniques, systems, and software. Different projects will be launch and reported on for your benefit. Often you will be alerted to these projects and have the opportunity to participate and give your input to how they should be carried out. At the end of teh experiement, we will have a better insight to the usefulness of the item/technique or software at the center of the experment.

Greetings Blog Family,
For some time now I have been desiring an ebook to give away to my subscribers. Many topics have drifted through my notebooks, but none really stuck until the other day.
Great, now I have a subject and anangle, but how to produce the ebook? Well, I will share the topic with you later, but came across a technique that I want to experiment and share with you.
The source of this technique is from a book written by Joe Vitale and Han Mok called “The eCode: 33 Internet Superstars Reveal 43 ways to Make Money Online Almost Instantly – Using Only E-Mail.” Specifically, page 141, Chapter 30 entitled “Thirty-Nine Ways to Create an eBook with Little or No Writting.”
Understanding I am looking to create an ebook for my Blog Family, you understand why I might be interested in this chapter. They are going to show me how to get it done.
Taken from the book:
#1 – Ask for specific pieces of information. Send an email to a group of people, asking them for one specific piece of information, such as tips for writing classified ads.
The EXperiment:
It is my intent to test this theory to see if I could create a quality ebook using this technique.
Methodology:
1) Create an overall theme for the ebook
2) Create a list of potential articles
3) Create list of potential contributors
4) List benefits of participating for the contributing Bloggers
5) Approach bloggers on the list and set a due date
6) Write Introduction, my contribution, and conclusion
7) Follow up with Contributing Bloggers
Collect articles
9) Edit and insert graphics
10) Publish & Promote
Expectations:
I totally expect this experiment to end in an astonding success because of the bloggers In intend to have contribute and the quality of they are known to produce.
What Defines Success?
1) Quality ebook is created
2) Increases the number of subscribers to my site
I would like to know:
1) Length of time to collect materials and complete the project
2) How long to edit and create material.
Moving Forward:
I will periodically keep you posted on the progress of this experiment. Be sure to check in with me to f ind out where the experiment stands.
If you haven any questions, suggestions, ideas, or would like to participate in this experiment please don’t hesitate to contact me or leave a comment.
Let’s get it crackin, Blog Family!

It’s a good plan (the 10 point list) but I think 7 & 8 will give you the most headaches. Any idea how many pages you are aiming for with this eBook?
Anyway, if you like any of my stuff, I’d be happy to contribute

Yo, buddy. Checking in to see what’s up here? It’s an awesome experiment for you and the rest of the contributors. I think the biggest problem you might be facing is how to put all the pieces together into an ebook as each of the contributor has his own style of writing and presentation but the problem is elementary anyway.
Good luck, buddy. Will be back to check on its progress.
Cheers
Yan

Cool man! I think it will be awesome, the fact that you have multiple folks isn’t a problem, each will bring their own style and it’s not like you are trying to pass it off as though you wrote the whole thing!
You’re executive producing the book! Nice man, I can’t wait to read it!

@ Ben – Thanks for the offer. I believe there may be room for your contribution. I will hit you up for it. Thanks for being involved in my corner of the Blogosphere.
@ Dot Com Dud – Thanks for visiting and giving your question. 7 & 8 would be challenges if I didn’t know the people that I asked to contribute to the effort. However, I will be sure to follow up and follow through with them. I figure by Monday, I will send out reminders and check on progress.
As far as the number of pages, that is a good question. I didn’t set an expectation but can tell you that I will have anywhere from 12 to 15 articles, so you can figure it will be in the 20 to 25 page range…, possibly more depending on the length of the articles. I asked for them to be from 500 to 750 words. Some expressed that they will be writing more and that was fine with me.
Looking forward to interacting with you in the future.
@ Yan – Thanks for checking in on me and for brainstorming ideas with me, while sharing your opinion. I think you were on point. I can feel your concern on blending it together, but as Joe said below, I am not trying to pass it off as my book that I wrote. I plan on being open and honest by letting them know that it is a compilation of articles, thoughts, and stories from the Next BLOGOSPHERE’S BIG SHOTS!
Please keep me on my toes, Yan! I need it.
@ Joe – I like the title of Executive Producer, LOL! I might have to put that on the book: Executive Producer, Freddie Taylor. That is sweet, Son! Hahahahha!

Sounds like a great idea Freddie, so great I think I may employ the same technique in the future, with a few modifications.
I think this will be a great way to get your readers and bloggers to work together in a team. Although we have a strong network we haven’t really done much as a joint effort so it will be good to see what all our effort combined can amount to.
One problem I think you may come across is having to chase people up for the articles, I realise everyone is busy and sometimes it can be down heartening to hear someone hasn’t done something they said they would.
Brilliant video as always, and I can’t wait for the project to finish so I can benefit from the results.

Freddie,
You got me excited for the project. But forget about the problems and just put on those boots of yours and be ready to kick those that need to get working.

@ Danny – By all means, use the idea. That is what these experiments is all about. Let’s find out if these techniques work and use them to build your business.
As far as chasing the people down for articles, I don’t think it is going to be that bad. I have learned a few tricks from being in the publishing business. Work with good people and request more articles than you need. LOL!
You are right about the collaboration. It hasn’t happened yet in our circles. Now is as good a time as any to get started. Hopefully, this will only fuel bigger and better ideas. Let’s make it happen!
Participation makes everything better.
@ Adam – Yeah, Son! I feel you there. You know I always got my boots near by. And if I want to go to an event, I take a back pack and keep them in there. You never know when someone might need a little boost to get jumpstarted. LOL!
