Weekly Lesson: Be Appreciative
The last few days or weeks, I had been a bit meloncolly. Thinking of all the inadequatcies in my life got me down a bit.
This is a point in life many reach and begin the reflection period. After achieving a moderate level of success, their is a natural tendency of entrepreneurs to contine looking forward to the next goal and accomplishments.
Wife Grips at Me About This all the Time
My wife is constantly getting on me because once I near completing a goal, I begin looking forward to the next milestone that I need to past. Her gripe is that I never take enough time to stop, smell the roses, and enjoy the small victory or attainment achieved. I know I need to work on that because it is the attainment that drives most entrepreneurs and Internet marketers to continue to push forward.
The problem comes when their is a lull in the success steps. Progress isn’t coming as quickly as anticipated or hoped. One begins to think and second guess themselves moving forward.
Self Made Entrepreneur
Now, I understand you are suppose to be the fearless risk taker, grabbing your business by the horns and succeeding in the process. Taking on all challenges and slaying theĀ day.
However, as an entrepreneur, I also know during the quiet moments the voice of doubt, friends, and outsiders rings clear in your mind.
It is here where you must be careful. you must not allow these voices to get inside your head. you must not internalize them for your dreams may parish with your progess. This is not good.
Appreciation Moment in my Garage
And this leads me to a moment I was having in my garage on Tuesday. My boys and I were coming home from an event. The ride was quiet, so I had time to think. The thinking was and nas been dominated by those voices I talked about above for that past few days.
All I could think of was what was missing in my life. Despite my moderate success, the void of not fulfilling all my goals weighted heavily upon me.
The Turnaround
Then all of a sudden a feeling of appreciation rushed over me. I remembered, and felt joy in having an attached two car garage to pull into after a long day with my boys.
I vividly remember not to long ago living in an apartment and dreaming of owning my very own two story home, full basement, big back yard, and an attached two car garage. This re-inforces my overall montra of “First in the mind, then in reality” because this house first appeared in my mind while still in the property.
Visualization
I created drawings of this house that I wanted to purchase in a notebook that I keep next to my desk. The sketchings were crude, but effective. They kept my ultimate goal at the front of my consciousness. I went to the Multiple Listing Service, MLS, to view homes availabe for sale and naturally focused on the two story homes in my price range that had all the amenities that I desired. The final outcome was the home I currently live in which has everything I dreamed of having.
Being an Entrepreneur
It is funny being an entreprneur, so is life. Now that some success has been achieved it is magically not good enough….unless….
Unless you appreciate it. The feeling of appreciation and gratefulness will rush over you and create light of joy to illuminate the path you must continue on as an achiever and entrepreneur.
Take a moment and share
Take a moment to realize what you haveĀ in your life that you are fortunate for. Take a moment to remember the struggle and fight you put in to achieve all the things that you have. It may not seem like a lot to you, but all things start out small.
If you have 37 subscribers like my man Suite J, then be proud to have your 37 subscribers. If you have two major clients, be appreciative with those two major clients. If are averaging 7 affiliate sales or 700 affiliate sales a month, then take a moment to appreciate that fact. I can tell you this, it could always be worst. You could always have less in your life and business than what you have right now. So, be appreciative of what you do have.

LOL. Did you get the “37 subscribers” from me?
I try to appreciate everything man. It’s human nature, and a big part of our society to want (and think we need) more, and more, regardless of what we have. That all changed for me when my daughter was born. We almost lost her, and I now I cherish every single moment I have with her. Although I still strive for more success, and a great lifestyle for my family, material things have been bumped waaay down the priority list compared to what they were before for me. It really changed my entire outlook on life in general.
Cheers on a motivating post man!
