Be a Self-Starter

Greetings Blog Family,

It’s host Freddie Taylor, here at FreddieTaylor.com ready to get at you with another Motivational Moment video.

Today, I want to talk to you about being a self-started, about lighting the flames of motivation and action inside yourself. You may have noticed the last few weeks there hasn’t been any videos here at FreddieTaylor.com.

Did you miss me?

Well, I missed you, but had to do it to make a point.

1) They Might Not Show Up

You cannot depend on other people to come along, motivate you, and get you out of a rut….They might not show up!

Where would that leave you, Blog Family? You will be left out in the cold, left out, and in a vulnerable situation. That is not the place to be.

2) Your Dreams Are Too Important

There is something inside of you that you are trying to express. These expressions manifest themselves as goals and dreams….and they are too important to wait for for someone else to come along to get you fired up. So don’t wait for them!

3) Secret to Success

The secret to success is to build the internal fires of motivation to get yourself going on a day to day basis. This can be done by writing your goals out, keeping them in front of you, reviewing them often, and feeling what it would be like to complete them.

At the end of the day, your dreams are your responsibility. you are the keeper of Goals and Dreams. Don’t rely on others to get you motivated. They might not show up!

Our dream is too important to be taken care of by someone else who has a bigger dream than us. Don’t outsource it. You can’t find the next best replacement other than yourself.

Yan, my man! Your words are so true. But how you going to be my student, when I am yours!

Good stuff, Yan. I guess that is why iron sharpens iron. Let’s keep hanging, pushing, learning, and growing!

Yep Freddie you are right. right? ;) That makes 2 right. Do I win something?

Seriously, finding motivation is sometimes very hard. Motivation is the kind of thing that is either extremely powerful because everything seems to work right or it this something extremely hard to find because nothing is working properly. Relying on other people to find that motivation is good for “short term motivation” once in a while, but otherwise you have to keep that fire alive all by yourself! ;)

I personally keep that motivation by setting short term goals. I have long term goals and dreams just like everyone else, but I think when you have only long term goals it’s hard to stay motivated because you don’t see the benefits right away. With short term goals and a long term vision you stay motivated and still dream of big things.

@ Ben – You hit the nail on the head with the short and long term goals. That is where it is at. The short term goals are kind of like carrots to keep the donkey moving. You chase and reach enough carrots and the next thing you know you are eyeballing one of your long term goals and really starting to feel like a winner.

Hhahhaaa, we will get into all of this a little deeper later, but that is definitely the crux of the matter. Thanks for sharing and keep on reaching for the top!

A good talking point, so eloquently posed by the Balboa of the blogosphere!

I agree with Ben, and Freddie, about the importance of goal setting, both in the long and short term. The motivation though must come from one true source. From yourself! It’s all well and good having these goals but to quote the Yan master ‘Don’t outsource YOUR dreams or goals!’

It is good to have that network, to bounce those ideas and to help with your motivation, but you gotta look after number one! Go get some!

@ Nota – Networking with like minded people is definitely important, but at the end of the day…your goals and dreams are your responsibility.

    Don’t let yourself down!

Glad you are feeling me, Neal.

The hardest person to motivate is yourself. It is vital to be strict and focused with your own goals, otherwise you will find that you will not hit them.
